‘It’s our wits that make us men’

Never a fan of Mel Gibson’s acting or directing skills (cross-reference below), this 1995 Best Picture winner seems embarrassing to look at in 2022 as idiot-without-a-cause Putin, attempts to turn back the democratic clock.

As per Passion of the Christ, just three lines:

Gibson’s too-white-by-half legs and pathetically phoney accent will get most Scots up in arms.

The too convenient love story never rings true.

The brutal battle scenes are more like watching CNN these days than capturing centuries-old massacres.

Still, I bet it’s the KGB Officer without a cause who heartily enjoys repeated viewings of his favourite American flick. JWR
