Contests

1. Identify the picture and win a listing or sponsor an article

Every month we'll publish a picture that already exists somewhere on JWR. If you can name the film and identify the director, send us an e-mail with your answers to jamesweggreview@bellnet.ca. At the end of every month, the winner will be chosen by a random draw from the correct replies. Winners will have their choice of a one-year Basic Listing (Organization or Individual - up to $249 in value) or the option of sponsoring any available article or historic person in perpetuity - the latter can be a unique way of paying tribute to a special person or remembering a loved one. Here's this month's photo:

Who is the actor? What is the movie's title? E-mail your answers to JWR by September 30.

Good luck!

2. Find the error and help a child in need

At JWR we aim to deliver error-free articles, captions and navigation links. Despite our best efforts and at least two sets of eyes proofing the work and several volunteers testing the site, mistakes slip by. Accordingly, we'd like to convert folly into virtue: if you spot an error and let us know (jamesweggreview@bellnet.ca), we'll donate $20 to:

Child Learning Fund of Canada
Charitable goal:
To provide scholarships ... to enable Canadian students to enroll in tutorial programs.

We'll also send you a copy of
JWR: The First Lustrum (2001 - 2006)
as your gift.

Notes:

  • Spelling errors are common but language differences (e.g., British/U.S. English; colour/color) don't concern us as long as the meaning is clear and the word exists in at least one dictionary.
  • Grammar and useage are more subjective; at JWR we use The Chicago Manual of Style as our guide.
  • Using a correctly spelled word incorrectly is of interest (e.g.,  Helen Anderson was the high school's principle.).  When producing so many articles on deadline, these types of gremlins can creep into the copy.
  • Errors in opinion? They don't count here but we always welcome other points of view in the Readers' Forum.
  • Error by omission: leaving out a word is easy to do and frequently hard to spot.
  • Broken internal links and unexpected results during page navigation also qualify as do incorrect photo captions or country/flag names.
Thanks for helping out!
