Cultural Life in Southern California

Walt Disney Concert HallSouthern California is a hotbed both in its climate and its fabulous array of artistic experiences.  Recent reviews of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Opera (Falstaff 2005) are just a click away.

The musical life in the Coachella Valley includes first rate jazz, the Indian Wells Symphony Orchestra and world-class recitals.  Read all about them on the McCallum/Annenberg Theaters page.

Other offerings in the Palm Springs area include the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies and the world-renowned Palm Springs International Film Festival.  A "dress-rehearsal" for the Oscars (most notably Best Foreign Film), the 10-day celebration of filmmakers, writers, and actors is frequent stop for JWR. Between Performances

The Falls - Martinis Extraordinaire:  Imagine, a "James Bond" without having to ask for the Lillet!
Sherman's Delicatessen - No one goes hungry with these portions!
Hamburger Hamlet - Tasty, fresh and not too greasy!
Johnny Costa's - Frank's still alive and well in traditional Italian cuisine.
Hunter's - Budget-priced libations and non-pretentious atmosphere.
Palm Springs Chop House - extraordinary cuisine (savoury crab cakes, chops broiled to perfection) right in the heart of downtown.
The Palm Springs Desert Museum - is truly a jewel of the region.  With one of the finest Chihuly glass sculptures in the world and exhibits ranging from baskets to bugs, a trip to this visitor-friendly institution will always be rewarding.
And the performing arts series at the Annenberg Theater provides an impressive array of performances during the fall and winter seasons.
